When TH20 is announced, I hope in mid-2025, I will begin work on compiling the sixth version of the Megapack. To that end, I ask for any and all suggestions for additions, fixes, or removals which will improve this next version.

Awesome pack. Two questions however:

1. Why not include the official photography games? I think this pack should DEFINITELY have them if it has the fighting games as well. After all, they have shmup gameplay too. I'm talking about th9.5, th12.5,and th16.5

2. Why not pre-install vpatch for all games (where possible)? Why is it pre-installed for the older games only?

They, and 14.3, are absolutely included. You actually scared the hell out of me and I went back to check the torrent itself as well as the listing on Nyaa, and they're there. Not sure how you came to that misunderstanding.
>2
It's just a clutter-saving measure. The newer games that have vpatch available also have native options for input latency and resolution, so I believe they can work as intended right out of the box, at least more often than the older ones can. I'm no expert on vpatch, though; if that's no longer the case, it wouldn't be hard to pre-install it for every game.

Uhhhh what the fuck. Sorry for the scare, there's been some freak accident. I tried redownloading the torrent and you're right, they are included, but for whatever reason I don't have them anymore, they've disappeared if they ever even existed. Genuinely "what the fuck, how", I thought the pack just didn't have them. Am I being hacked?
>vpatch
Also yeah, gotcha. I've been wondering why the creator of vpatch hasn't done them anymore, maybe it's not even necessary anymore. Again, perfect pack, one of the best game series, thank you. This will come in handy when spreading the gospel.

No problem, and thanks for the feedback!

Would be probably worth to update 17.5 to at least the yuuma version (1.14)
>>

Of course. Any games that have been updated/patched since the last release of the pack will be brought up to their newest versions in the next release, as always.
The one big downside of distributing via torrent is that small, frequent updates for things like that just aren't feasible. However, I can add a note to the Nyaa page.

Thank you for your pack! It's extremely convenient and keeps the games quite vanilla.

I would like to request the inclusion of games that have some close relationship with Touhou, in particular Seihou (storyline is a parody of Touhou by the doujin circle that ZUN was a part of, music composed by ZUN) but also:
- Torte Le Magic (music composed by ZUN, arrangement of this is in DiPP)
- Uwabami Breakers (Touhou 10 engine, music by ZUN)
- perhaps even 神魔討綺伝 ~ Magus in Mystic Geometries (music composed by ZUN)

To the uninitiated, these all in some way or another feature direct contributions from ZUN, which I think warrants inclusion, in particular since anyone that doesn't want 'em can just choose to not download them.

Sorry for the late reply, I've been terribly sick.
You make an interesting suggestion, and I've been mulling it over. Firstly, let me just point out,
>anyone that doesn't want 'em can just choose to not download them
This could be used to justify adding absolutely anything, so it's not really convincing. ZUN's having had a hand in all those games, however, definitely makes them worthy of consideration.

That said, I still don't think they quite belong. Like it says in the torrent description, I'd prefer to keep the pack focused on "the official Touhou Project games", not everything ZUN has ever been involved in. The connection to Torte Le Magic is incredibly tenuous, Seihou are one step away from fangames, and MiMG actually is a fangame. I think Uwabami Breakers has the best claim to being included, but putting just one of them in the pack would be ridiculous.

I think a better option would be to make a separate pack for these games, and give them a similar treatment - include any English patches, add any required external tools, write up a README with known issues and some background on the games, and so on. That's something I'd even be willing to do (although it would take some research since it's a bit out of my wheelhouse), or I'd be happy to see someone with more expertise take it on.
There definitely is value in collecting these games and making them more easily accessible, I just don't think the Touhou pack is the place to do it.

Since you suggested them, I take it you have some experience with the games? Would you be willing to share your knowledge and potentially help make a pack out of them at some point?

I was wondering, why not keep the games unzipped?

(BTW, the captcha here kept failing for me, it's been hard to post my first longer comment...)

Mainly to have an automatic separation between the clean versions seen by your torrent client, and the installed copy that will get modified when you actually play them. If everything were included in a playable state in the torrent, it would be all too easy to accidentally play those copies, then get your config or score files clobbered by the client, or have other unintended interactions.
It's also just neater this way, which I personally like.
